About

Kristin is a mom, writer, and former educator. Her love for storytelling and teaching can be traced back to second grade, when she received an award for “her fabulous stories and illustrations” from her teacher, Mrs. Adams, and generously started giving her five-year-old sister “ABC Classes.”

She grew up to become a passionate educator, teaching English Language Arts in Los Angeles’ inner-city high schools and county jails, and later a first grade teacher at her daughters’ beloved elementary school. During her 15 years in education, Kristin never stopped storytelling — she received multiple awards and grants for her innovative and impactful projects and instruction, which included a book written, published, and sold by her high school students after interviewing the homeless on Skid Row; public art shows for the students in the jails to share their written, visual, and performance art; a book about fears and how to overcome them, produced and sold by her first grade students.

Now pursuing her first childhood dream, Kristin seeks to continue what she started in the classroom — to share stories of redemption, but through children’s books.

Her writing has been recognized in several national picture book contests. She is a proud member of the SCBWI, two amazing critique groups, and also a former contributing writer for lifestyle site Mom.com, with over two dozen published articles written to empower and encourage fellow mommies.

A fourth-generation Japanese-Filipino American, Kristin was born and raised in Pasadena, CA, and still lives there now. When not writing, she can be found getting cuddled by her husband, two girls, and doggy, Magnolia. Her current favorites (other than her family and friends) are croissants, dresses, and days without plans.
